OUR STORY

When Dave and Jay first crossed paths in 2022, it was like finding the perfect recipe—they instantly bonded over their love for cooking, baking, and the joys of family and community.

Though Dave hails from Chicago, his heart is rooted in Louisiana, where he spent his childhood baking and bonding with his mother. Those cherished recipes, especially her famous brownies still hold a special place in his heart—and they’re always the first to disappear at family gatherings!

Meanwhile, Jay grew up admiring the culinary artistry of his aunts and uncles during festive family celebrations. He’d watch them whip up their signature dishes, taking notes and dreaming of making those recipes his own someday.

Neither Dave nor Jay took the traditional culinary route, but they both learned the invaluable lesson that food is a powerful way to connect with others. Inspired by the spirit of Ruth, Jay’s maternal grandmother and Roz, Dave’s late mother—who never met but both crafted unforgettable meals with simple ingredients—they carry forward a legacy of love, resilience, and community. These amazing women taught them that food is about more than just taste; it’s about bringing people together, celebrating life’s moments, and sharing laughter.

So, when Dave and Jay decided to embark on a new adventure after hosting those delightful Sunday dinners with the “Sunday Dinner Crew” in Baton Rouge and the random feasts they prepared in their tiny condo for Jay’s cousins in Toronto, they knew it had to be something deliciously food-related.

Introducing Ruth and Roz Kitchen—a heartfelt tribute to Caribbean and Southern cuisine, and a loving homage to Ruth, Roz, and all the incredible women who bring people together through food, even when resources are tight. With a delightful fusion of flavors and cooking techniques, this restaurant promises to tantalize your taste buds and create the perfect backdrop for unforgettable memories.
